Dad Number 3 - Update

As an update to my Dad Number 3 - Not Natural or Adoptive...Step post last week, I can now fill you in on the results from his visit to the doctor.

I waited until about 6 o’clock, pacing back and forth since 2PM – waiting for my mother to call me with the update. By six, when she hadn’t called yet, I dropped what I was doing to call for the update. As the phone rang, my head flooded with every scenario imaginable. I asked myself, “Why has she not called? Did something go wrong?” I didn’t know and it was killing me.

When she picked up the other end of the phone…all typical pleasantries went right out the window.

Me – How did it go? How is he?
Mom – Well, I just got done speaking with a doctor friend of ours who is here at the hospital with us. He said that the surgeries went well and that things looked good.
Me – So he is going to be OK?
Mom – It looks that way. We won’t really know until he gets into recovery.
Me – What were the details? What did they find?
Mom – Well it was worse than we had all thought. During his 4 hour surgery, he had to have 7 bypasses.
Me – Holy shit! I have never heard of that. The most I have heard of is four.
Mom – Yeah … Me too.
Me – So, what now?
Mom – Well after he is in recovery I will be able to talk more with the doctors.
Me – Please call me after that. I really want to know how things are going.
Mom – I will.
Me – How are you doing?
Mom – Better now, but there is still a long recovery ahead. He won’t be able to work for at least 8 to 10 weeks.
Me – How long will he have to be on bed rest
Mom – about 2 weeks
Me – then he can start doing things?
Mom – Only what he feels like he can handle.

Needles to say, I was floored….seven bypasses?! I could hear in my mother’s voice that she was completely frazzled. Knowing my step-dad, I know that this will be a huge adjustment for him. He is very factual, but hard headed. For him to stay away from work, eggs, ice cream, bacon, butter, heavy lifting and….stress will be undoubtedly the hardest thing that he has had to do. This is why I am so worried.

I am going to call again for another update. I need to know that everything is going to be ok.

Inside Insane Mama

So as the old saying goes; “You learn something new every day,” I am now a firm believer.

After reading Insane Mama’s post this morning, I now know that I am living with a Blog Slut! Is there such a thing? I don’t know but if there is… she is one.

Now I know that whenever she sneaks off while on the phone…she’s secretly talking to someone she has met by way of BLOG. I had NO idea that she had spoken to anyone that she met through her blog on the phone…until now. Like 4 or 5 people.

It starts with innocent posts and comments, then moves to exchanging personal messages through the blogs, then there is the exchange of personal emails…then the phone calls start. What is next? A quick road trip? A late night or afternoon rendezvous?

And this is all coming at a time when we are grounding our teenager and scolding the younger ones for giving out “personal information” to people that they meet online. AND…right after her chronicles of Stalker James….

I guess I don’t know what she is thinking…or what she is looking for out there. Am I not giving her something that she needs? Is she lonely with me? Am I not interesting enough for her? Does she crave attention? (attention whore that she is.)

I suppose that it could just be that she is a blog-centric kiss ass and looking to boost her image and traffic. That is probably it… being the “catch” that I am…what else could she need in life?

I will close by stating that it is increasingly hard for me to pull her from her blog or her phone these days. (which is funny cuz when we met, she could not work her cell phone right, only knew how to write documents on her computer and was retarded in the ways of the Internet.)
Did I create this blog-slut, attention hungry, Internet guru, cell phone Twitterer?

Help Me…I live with 4 girls !!!!!!

Living in a house with 4 girls, ranging from 9 to 37 definitely has its ups and downs. Overall, I have to say that I enjoyed being able to add a “boy’s” perspective to things, teaching the girls how to punch (big mistake!!! I now have continually bruised arms. “Look…. see how hard I can punch now!!!!”) On top of that, I get to be the one who fixes things – nothing like feeling accomplished after building something or making a repair that would otherwise need a repairman called in.

That being said…These days my views have been changing a bit. I almost find it scary to even walk through the house. Now, Insane Mama is … a completely whole different ball of wax that I will have to get into at another time, but as for the other three girls…the only thing that comes to mind is… “RANDOM!”

I approach every doorway, corner and hall with extreme caution. Trust me when I tell you that NOTHING can be assumed. I have walked down a hall to throw in a load of laundry to find a COMPLETELY naked 9 year old “teaching” her stuffed animals how to “properly” clean a room. I have been jousted in the “jewels” by an anal retentive 11 year old sweeping out her room. Lastly…what can you say when your 16 year old rounds that corner looking like this?

I mean….come on.

Then, I turn for help from Insane Mama to find that she is too deep in the land of bloggersville to even notice anything is wrong with her eldest daughter. Forget Help I Have A Teenager…. Help Me…I live with 4 girls!!!!!!
